In class today we did the following:
1. Dr. H gave a presentation on:

- Dr H also went over
a few logistics about dropbox procedure and the first
assignment (Linking-to-Life Project Part A: Ecological Footprint
The next assignment (Part B) will be assigned next week and explained in
class on Wednesday.
- Dr H also made an important announcement
about not leaving the classroom during the 50 minute class period.
Details are on the slide copied below under
Announcements.
Bottom line: Don't get up and leave class unless you have a serious reason (i.e.,medical issue) and if you do need to leave early for a good reason, do it quietly out the back door.
- We then had a practice CLICKER question. Dr
H which be checking clicker registration details this weekend so
be sure you have properly registered your clicker -- in
particular, in the place where you need to add your UAnetID to the clicker registration
page ( in the box marked "OTHER" on the web registration
form.
- Dr H then proceeded with her lecture on Matter
(see presentation linked above). As part of it the class engaged
in a "hands on activity" to review the
basics of the PERIODIC TABLE OF THE ELEMENTS The activity is in the APPENDIX of CLASS NOTES ( pp 107
-111) if you want to try it again on your own!
- We also had a class discussion about the Ecological
Footprint (Part A) assignment, with students contributing many
inisghts about what they learned by doing the assignment.
- We wrapped up with a short review of basic definitions and
principles of ENERGY -- more on this next week.
