ANNOUNCEMENTS

IF YOU MISSED CLASS TODAY

In class today we did the following:

1.   Dr H announced that grades would be posted  and available in D2L later today.   She explained that your "clicker grade" (the Turning Point Total Points Grade in D2L) would be based on the number of Clicker Day Points that you have earned.  You earn a Clicker Day Point by being present in class and clicking on 50% or more of all clicker question opportunities in that class.  (Note that the  % or clicks needed for a day point will rise to 75% later in the semester.)

Including today, the maximun number of CLICKER DAY POINTS a student could earn is 5 points.  If you have been clicking, but have only a zero "0" for your TurningPoint Total Points Grade, this meands that you have not registered your clicker properly in OUR class.  Register again, carefully following the directions posted on the bottom of our main GC 170A1 D2L site page.

If you have any clicker issues, the person to contact is TA Adriana Zuniga  at: aazuniga@email.arizona.edu    (Please do not email Dr H about clicker issues.)

2.  Dr H then gave a lecture to wrap up Topic #6 and start in on the topic of Atmospheric Composition (Topic #7), which we will cove completelyr in Thursday's class:

Topic #6  Wrap-Up & Intro to Topic #7 on Atmospheric Composition

During the lecture, we had some clicker questions and a whimsical look at the vibration/rotation behavior of one of the Greenhouse Gases:  nitrous oxide (N2O) by viewing an entry of the "Dance Your PhD Contest.  Watch it again here:

3.  Then Dr H explained upcoming HOMEWORK ASSIGNMENTS:

Assignments  I-1 and I-2 are short writing assignments that involve watching an online tutorial lesson and then writing a few paragraphs on questions related to the tutorial.
I-1 and I-2 are posted NOW in D2L under Assignments in the Individual Assignments section.

Assignment Linking-to-Life Part B: Topic Selection and Film Reviews involves you watching and reviewing one full-length film and one or more shorter videos about a topic that interests you so that you can develop a question to investigate for PART C your Linking-to-Life Project Report.  The complete directions for Part B and Part C will be posted in D2L on Wednesday Sep 25th.

STUDENTS were asked to READ THROUGH THE DIRECTIONS for these assignments before Thursday's class and come to class with your questions for clarification about any aspect of these assignments.

  4.  We then watched the final segment of the PBS NOVA show:  Saved by the Sun .
